Amasi (a traditional Southern African food) translates to fermented milk or sour milk in English.

It’s similar in texture and taste to buttermilk or yogurt, made by naturally fermenting fresh cow’s milk until it thickens and develops a tangy flavor.

In Zimbabwe, South Africa, and neighboring countries, amasi is often eaten with sadza (maize meal) or porridge, or enjoyed chilled as a refreshing drink.
